Akong Tulku Rinpoche, cofondatore del monastero Kagyu Samye Ling in Scozia, è stato ucciso oggi a Chengdu, assieme a un nipote e a un monaco che lo accompagnavano.
Akong Tulku Rinpoche, la cui vita esemplare ha ispirato migliaia di praticanti e non in tutto il mondo, aveva una vastissima attività umanitaria e di Dharma.
La sua morte improvvisa è una grande perdita per il Dharma e per il mondo, sono poche le persone che dedicano la loro vita in modo totale agli altri come Akong Rinpoche ha fatto fino alla fine.

"A tutti i cari amici di Samye Ling e di Choje Akong Tulku
Sono veramente spiacente di informarvi che mio fratello Choje Akong Rinpoche, mio nipote e un monaco che viaggiava con loro, oggi sono stati tragicamente assassinati a Chengdu.
Il corpo di Akong Rinpoche è stato portato all'ospedale dove sarà effettuata l'autopsia. Queste sono tutte le informazioni che ho ricevuto sino ad ora. Se mi perverranno ulteriori notizie vi informerò.
Mio nipote Kating Lama è riuscito a contattare la sorella di Sua Santità Karmapa che ha informato Sua Santità Karmapa, Sua Santità il Dalai Lama e Changon Kenting Tai Situpa, che stanno recitando preghiere.
Reciteremo tutti preghiere speciali e faremo moltissime offerte per conto di Akong Rinpoche, ogni contributo vorrete fare sarà molto apprezzato.

Bellissima video intervista ad Akong Rinpoche
"Prima che ci stabilissimo qui vivevo ad Oxford e cercavamo un posto per creare un centro. Abbiamo cercato in vari luoghi nel Galles e in Scozia; qui (in Scozia) abbiamo trovato molte similitudini con il Tibet e specialmente con la mia zona, dove non c'erano molti alberi ma molte pecore. Questa è la terra delle pecore!
DOMANDA: ANCHE LE CONDIZIONI METEO SONO SIMILI A QUELLE TIBETANE?
RINPOCHE: no, qui piove così tanto! Nella mia terra natale nevica sempre. Ci sono molte colline basse con molti allevamenti di pecore. Sono posti molto belli e tranquilli.
DOMANDA: NEL CORSO DEGLI ANNI IL RICONOSCIMENTO (DEL CENTRO) E' CRESCIUTO IN MANIERA INCREDIBILE
RINPOCHE: Si, non solo qui ma anche a livello internazionale. Abbiamo molti centri in diversi Paesi, quindi si sta sviluppando in molti posti.
DOMANDA: QUESTO E' IL CENTRO TIBETANO PIU' GRANDE D'EUROPA
RINPOCHE: Si, direi di si
DOMANDA: CHE TIPO DI PERSONE VENGONO QUI E COSA AVETE DA OFFRIRE?
RINPOCHE: Vengono persone molto diverse tra loro. All'inizio, tra la fine degli anni '60 e l'inizio degli anni '70, venivano molti hippies. Ora vengono persone più mature d'età, con una certa educazione, tra cui molti scienziati. Vengono un po' meno giovani e più persone adulte.
DOMANDA: LE PERSONE PIU' ANZIANE CERCANO UN SENSO ALLA LORO VITA?
RINPOCHE: Si, penso di si. Al giorno d'oggi quello che proponiamo è più accettato anche dal punto di vista scientifico e per questo vengono qui persone con un certo livello di educazione. Vengono anche scolaresche ed insegnanti per imparare e per studiare il Buddhismo.
DOMANDA: COSA PUO' OFFRIRE AL MONDO IL BUDDHISMO?
RINPOCHE: Compassione e tolleranza. Nel buddhismo non csi crede nella vendetta, si crede invece che per andare d'accordo sia necessario imparare ad essere tolleranti.
A volte ci sono anche situazioni turbolente, non tutto è necessariamente pacifico!Ma la maggior parte delle volte la situazione che si crea è pacifica.
DOMANDA: IL BUDDHISMO PROMUOVE LA PACE NEL MONDO
RINPOCHE: si. Nel buddhismo si crede che tutte le religioni siano sullo stesso piano e che tutte vadano rispettate. Si crede anche nel rispetto delle persone più anziane, nel rispetto di tutti gli umani e nel rispetto di tutto ciò che esiste. Nel buddhismo si crede molto anche nell'ambiente e nel proteggerlo affinché rimanga positivo e sano.
DOMANDA: COME SIETE STATI ACCETTATI DALLA POPOLAZIONE LOCALE? DEVONO ESSERE STATI UN PO' SOSPETTOSI QUANDO SIETE ARRIVATI QUI
RINPOCHE: Penso che all'inizio lo fossero. Quando sono arrivato qui, nel 1966, eravamo solamente in pochi e all'epoca le persone avevano strane idee nei nostri confronti; pensavano che facessimo magia nera o cose del genere. Col tempo, aprendo il centro al pubblico, l'idea delle persone è cambiata e ora penso che il centro piaccia. Grazie ai tanti visitatori che vengono qui ogni anno, la nostra comunità è ora la maggiore fonte di entrate per Eskdalemuir. Non stiamo qui a farci pubblicità, siamo felici che le persone vengano qui se lo desiderano.
DOMANDA: IN QUESTO PROGRAMMA STIAMO CERCANDO DI CAPIRE COSA POTREBBE SUCCEDERE SE LA SCOZIA DIVENTASSE UN PAESE INDIPENDENTE DALL'INGHILTERRA. SE QUESTO ACCADESSE QUALE EFFETTO AVREBBE SU DI VOI?
RINPOCHE: Sarò contento di qualsiasi cosa finché ci sarà pace. Vengo da un'esperienza diversa e ho visto succedere molte cose. Finché ci sarà pace e le persone vivranno bene, che la Scozia sia indipendente o no, sarò contento.. -

Aggiornamento sulla morte di Akong Tulku da parte di suo fratello, Lama Yeshe Rinpoche (fonte: pagina facebook del Kagyu Samye Dzong Venezia)
E' stato ora confermato che il prezioso corpo di mio fratello, Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche, sarà portato al suo monastero Dolma Lhakang, nella regione autonoma del Tibet, per la cremazione e le preghiere che vengono fatte per un grande Rinpoche.
Probabilmente avrete letto che tre uomini sono stati arrestati in relazione all'uccisione di Akong Tulku Rinpoche, suo nipote e il suo assistente.
Come sapete, Akong Tulku Rinpoche stava per iniziare il suo viaggio annuale per ispezionare i progetti di Rokpa International, l'organizzazione umanitaria da lui fondata per fornire istruzione e assistenza sanitaria nelle aree più remote, e per portare i fondi raccolti durante l'anno.
Riteniamo che le persone arrestate stessero cercando di prendere questi fondi. Rinpoche è morto per proteggerli e ha sacrificato la sua vita per salvaguardare i soldi destinati alle migliaia di tibetani che da lui dipendono.

The following memoir was written by Kunga Dondrup, a monk living in Kathmandu. As he explains, he met Akong Rinpoche when he was younger, and this is his memory of that particular meeting.
Apparently, he walked away with a jewel.-
Some years ago, in Cardiff, I had an interview with Akong Rinpoche. I was feeling really low, and sorry for myself, as things were going pretty badly at that time. I told him what I was going through.
He looked at me flatly and said, 'Welcome to Samsara.'
And that was it.
I felt a little deflated at first. After all, I'd opened my heart to the man, revealed the anguish that was eating me, and all he could say was this?
And then the penny dropped: What won't work in the first place can't be fixed. What else should I expect? It was a wake up call for me.
If we accept Buddha's teaching then we really do need to make its central theme our personal experience, the springboard for our outlook and practice: Life is full of suffering; the cause of suffering is clinging; but there is a way out; and this is to follow the path which arose from the Buddha's realisation.
Samsara won't work. It can't be fixed. In other words, there will always be suffering, in as many ways as causes and conditions permit, until the very causes of suffering themselves have been overcome, and we achieve arhatship or Buddhahood.
I was very sorry to hear of Rinpoche's death today, as I am very grateful for the teachings I received from him. They were always practical, earthy and wise. And so, rather than wax emotional about how I miss him - which would be connected more with my own emotional self-indulgence, than with what he has personally experienced - I honour his memory by sharing the very same teaching he gave to me.
I am sure Rinpoche will continue to benefit many beings. If we want to do the same, as Mahayana practitioners should, then we need to remember and implement Buddha's teaching and make it bear fruit in our lives.

PRESS RELEASE FROM LAMA YESHE LOSAL RINPOCHE, ABBOT OF KAGYU SAMYE LING MONASTERY, SCOTLAND
RE: THE DEATH OF CHOJE AKONG TULKU RINPOCHE
Now that the Chengdu Police have released the names of the men who killed Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche, his nephew and attendant, we are in a position to confirm that one of the suspects named by the police, Tu Dan Gu Sha also known as Thubten Kunsal, had previously spent more than five years in the UK, and returned to China two years ago.
Whilst residing in the UK he made religious statues at our monastery in Scotland and our London centre. He left very happy and there was no question of any economic dispute. My brother, Chuje Akong Tulku Rinpoche had always been very kind to Thubten Kunsal and welcomed him into the heart of our community.
According to an official microblog post by the Chengdu police force, the three suspects confronted my brother and the other two victims, with knives, at his home in Chengdu in what is being described as an “economic dispute.”
We strongly refute any claims that Thubten Kunsal was owed money by Akong Rinpoche, the monastery or our London centre. When he was with us in the UK we supported his living expenses as agreed in writing, and there was never any dispute about that.
We are therefore very shocked that two years later he came demanding money, knowing that Akong Rinpoche was about to send funds to the ROKPA charitable projects in the Tibetan areas of China. As we have already stated, Akong Rinpoche died defending those funds.
It has been reported in the press that the driver who was killed was a monk from Samye Ling. This is not correct. It was Akong Tulku Rinpoche's Tibetan attendant, from his Monastery Dolma Lhakang, who has not been to the UK.
I hope this statement will clear up any misunderstandings,

Prayer Message For Akong Rinpoche by His Eminence the 12th Khentin Tai Situ Rinpoche.
Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa was very sad to hear the shocking news of Very Venerable Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche and two assistants killed on the 8th of October 2013, first heard through the news and then confirmed by Venerable Choje Lama Yeshe Losal, Very Venerable Akong Tulku Rinpoche's brother.
Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa immediately gave a condolence message to the entire Mandala associated with Very Venerable Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche, including his family and relatives through his brother Venerable Choje Lama Yeshe Losal and his nephew Lama.
Venerable Choje Lama Yeshe Losal also received detailed advice from Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa on how to arrange the 49 day ceremony that will be beneficial for fulfilling all the noble activities of the late Very Venerable Choje Akong Rinpoche and also for the swift rebirth of his incarnation without obstacles.
Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa has prepared a written message in Tibetan and English and also a video message for the Sangha of Samye Ling Monastery, affiliated Samye Dzong Centers in the world, Rogpa Charitable Trustees, Tara Therapy Trustees, supporters, volunteers and disciples of the late Very Venerable Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche to encourage them to continue all the noble activities of the late Akong Tulku Rinpoche. One of the most important activities of the late Akong Tulku Rinpoche is the approximately 200 schools established around Tibet and Nepal that has to be carried on by the trustees and supporters because it provides education to thousands of children and has the potential to create a bright and meaningful future for tens of thousands of children of the younger and upcoming generations.
Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa also advised and encouraged Venerable Choje Lama Yeshe Losal and Miss Lea Wyler from Switzerland who holds the main responsibility for fulfilling the work of Rokpa Charity under the late Akong Tulku Rinpoche through telephone to continue the humanitarian and educational work and the Tara Rokpa therapy and medical activities which were one of the main activities that the late Very Venerable Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche dedicated his life to.
Under Guru Vajradhara Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa's instructions and blessing, Palpung Monastic Seat Palpung Sherab Ling, Palpung Thubten Chokhor Ling conducted 49 days of puja dedicated to the late Very Venerable Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche. Also, lighting of 100,000 butter lamps started today at Palpung Sherabling. At the same time, Palpung Dharma centers and study groups in various parts of the world are doing their part to organize prayers for the late Very Venerable Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche for all his noble activities and for the swift return of his incarnation to continue Dharma activities to benefit all sentient beings.. -

MESSAGGIO DA LAMA YESHE LOSAL RINPOCHE
Cari amici,
mi ci è voluto un po’ di tempo per riuscire ad organizzare tutto quello che dovevo fare prima di potervi scrivere per farvi sapere cosa penso. Ora che ho avuto il tempo di riflettere, è il momento che gli studenti di dharma conoscano il mio pensiero.
Quando sono venuto a conoscenza delle circostanze della morte di mio fratello e delle identità di coloro che avevano ucciso lui, suo nipote e il suo autista, ho provato un immenso dispiacere per loro, perché il loro gesto è la dimostrazione di come un singolo attimo di rabbia cieca possa rovinare così tante vite. Perciò invece di essere arrabbiato io provo compassione per loro e penso a quanto karma negativo queste persone mal consigliate abbiano accumulato per sé stessi e per gli altri.
Vorrei far sapere a tutti gli amici che desiderano fare qualcosa per me e mio fratello che questo è il momento del perdono. Dovremmo avere tutti l’atteggiamento mentale del bodhisattva e sentire autentica compassione e perdono verso i responsabili della morte di Rinpoche. Io sono riuscito a perdonare e in questo modo mi sono liberato dalla sofferenza che provavo.
Vorrei che tutti gli studenti di dharma riflettessero sul fatto che quando permettiamo agli stati mentali negativi di prendere il sopravvento, siamo capaci di fare cose malvagie.
In qualità di studenti di Akong Tulku Rinpoche dovremmo essere orgogliosi del legame con lui, dato che in questo momento nelle aree tibetane della Cina ci sono centinaia di monasteri e migliaia di persone che pregano. In queste zone, così come nel resto del mondo, Rinpoche è riuscito a riunire persone di tutte le età e di ogni estrazione sociale.
Dovremmo essere molto orgogliosi perché lui ha passato la sua intera vita lavorando per il beneficio degli altri senza mai desiderare agi e privilegi per sé stesso. È stato un onore essere parte della sua vita e dobbiamo seguire il suo esempio continuando a supportare i suoi progetti, in particolare i progetti di beneficenza.
Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche si dedicava in modo particolare all’istruzione, alla salute e alla conservazione della cultura nelle zone Tibetane della Cina, e io vi chiedo dal cuore di continuare a supportare questi progetti della ROKPA in modo particolare.
Vorrei condividere con voi le belle parole tratte dalla lettera di commemorazione dell’attività di Rinpoche scritta dal diciottesimo Dulmo Choje Rinpoche:
“ Da essere nobile, hai dedicato tutta la vita a servire il Buddhadharma e a portare beneficio a tutti gli esseri. Con una gentilezza infinita, più profonda di quella di una madre verso suo figlio, hai cresciuto innumerevoli orfani; con un amore persino più grande di quello di un figlio amorevole ti sei preso cura di moltissimi anziani e invalidi che non avevano nessuno al loro fianco; con la generosità più pura e senza pregiudizi o preferenze, hai provveduto alle necessità e ai desideri dei più deboli, i poveri e i malati. Con l’aiuto che hai donato hai ridato vigore al dharma e alla cultura del Tibet che era diventata una lampada senza olio.”
Infine, vorrei ringraziare coloro che hanno inviato messaggi di condoglianze, sono sopraffatto dalla vostra gentilezza e comprensione.
Vi incoraggio a mantenere una mente compassionevole e positiva e ora lavoriamo insieme per portare avanti l’attività di Rinpoche.
