    Got ignorance?
Uncertainty is an uncomfortable position. But certainty is an absurd one.

    "

    il 17° Karmapa, OgyenTrinley Dorje

Attack on Mahabodhi temple shouldn’t be considered serious: The Dalai Lama
    Phayul[Sunday, July 07, 2013 23:49]

DHARAMSHALA, July 7: Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama has said that today’s terror attacks on the Mahabodhi Temple and other sites in Bodhgaya could be an act of a few individuals and shouldn’t be considered serious.
The Dalai Lama who turned 78 yesterday was responding to questions by reporters in the Tibetan settlement of Bylakuppe in south India.
He called the attacks “very sad” while noting that it could be an act of a “few individuals” and “shouldn’t be considered something serious.”
Two people have been injured in a series of blasts that rocked the Mahabodhi temple and the Tergar Monastery, residence of the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje in Bodhgaya, early Sunday morning.
The first blast took place inside the Mahabodhi temple at around 5:30 am, followed by seven successive explosions in the next half hour. According to Dorji, secretary of the Bodhgaya committee, there were in total four blasts inside the temple premises.
“Fortunately, there was no damage to the Bodhi Tree or the main temple structure," he told reporters. “In the first blast which took place near the Bodhi tree, a table was blown up because of which two persons were injured. The second blast, I think, was inside the enclosure where books were kept. The furniture was damaged but there was no damage to the monuments or statues."
Sources have told Phayul that at least two bombs exploded inside the Tergar Monastery premises, home to around 150 monks. Another live bomb was found inside the Monastery which was later defused. No causalities have been reported from the Monastery.
Despite the blasts being not of "very high intensity," the Indian Home Ministry has called the assault on the sanctum sanctorum of Buddhists all over the world, a "terror attack."
According to reports, the central government has further directed all states to ensure fool-proof security at Buddhist shrines, Buddhist places of worship and Tibetan settlements in the wake of the attacks.
Although no one has claimed responsibility for the explosions yet, reports have surfaced of an intelligence input sent by the Delhi Police in October to Bihar's Director General of Police and the Superintendent of Police in Gaya district about a possible strike on the Mahabodhi temple by terror organisation Indian Mujahideen.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh strongly condemned the terror strikes and said such attacks on religious places will "never be tolerated."
"The Prime Minister has strongly condemned the blasts in around the sacred Mahabodhi Temple at Bodhgaya. He has said that our composite culture and traditions teach us respect for all religions and such attacks on religious places will never be tolerated," a Prime Minister's Office release said today.
Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay, the elected head of the Tibetan people, also expressed deep sadness over the serial bomb blasts and offered prayers for those injured in the attacks in a statement today.
“I am deeply saddened to learn about the series of bomb blasts at Mahabodhi Temple at Bodh Gaya, Bihar, north India. My prayers for the injured and their family members,” Sikyong Sangay said.
Millions of pilgrims from all over the world, including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, visit the two millennia-old Mahabodhi Temple, a UNESCO Heritage site where the Buddha attained enlightenment.

Upholding Buddha’s teachings on ahimsa best response to attacks: Karmapa Rinpoche
    Phayul[Monday, July 08, 2013 10:45]

DHARAMSHALA, July 8: The 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje has expressed his deep sadness over the “senseless violence” in the sacred town of Bodhgaya and said the best response to the attacks is to uphold Lord Buddha’s teachings on love and ahimsa.
On Sunday morning, several bombs exploded inside the Mahabodhi Temple and other places of worship in the town, including at the Tergar Monastery, residence of Gyalwang Karmapa in Bodhgaya, injuring at least two people and causing damage to property.
“I was deeply saddened to hear of the senseless violence perpetrated today at the Mahabodhi temple and its environs in Bodhgaya,” the Tibetan religious leader said in a statement issued from his exile home in the north Indian town of Dharamshala. “This is the place where Buddhist pilgrims from India and the world over pay homage to Lord Buddha and his teachings.”
Gyalwang Karmapa, who yearly holds a major religious festival in the town, noted that the “best homage” Buddhists can pay to Lord Buddha in response to the attacks “is to uphold his teachings on love and ahimsa (nonviolence).”
“I ask you, therefore, to remain calm and refrain from any further escalation of the violence,” Gyalwang Karmapa said. “I offer my prayers for the victims and their families, and call on Buddhists everywhere to truly embrace the wisdom of Lord Buddha's teachings in all that we do.”
The Indian government has termed the explosions in Bodhgaya “terror attacks” and directed all states to ensure fool-proof security at Buddhist shrines, Buddhist places of worship and Tibetan settlements in the wake of the attacks.
According to reports, the police are analysing footage of the last 48 hours from about 15 CCTV cameras that are installed inside the temple and have detained an individual for questioning.
Three live bombs have reportedly been recovered from the temple and defused. Police sources said that about two to three kg of ammonium nitrate and urea were used in the bombs. They said gas cylinders might have been used in the blasts and are also investigating whether RDX was used.
Temple authorities have confirmed that no damage have been caused to the Bodhi tree or the two millennia-old main temple structure.
While responding to reporters in the Tibetan settlement of Bylakuppe in south India, Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama yesterday called the attacks “very sad” while noting that it could be an act of a “few individuals” and “shouldn’t be considered something serious.”

Speriamo non sia una vendetta islamica dopo le vergognose violenze da parte dei Buddhisti e non del Myanmar contro le minoranze islamiche, se così fosse non siamo più sicuri di pellegrinare nei luoghi sacri del Buddhismo.

An appeal from Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile over Bodh Gaya blasts
    July 11, 2013 5:56 pm

An appeal from the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile concerning the incident of bomb explosions which occurred at the highly sacred, Mahabodhi Temple, Bodh Gaya in Bihar
Around 5:30 in the morning of 7th July 2013 a total of ten bomb explosions occurred within the complex of the Mahabodhi Temple, a supremely sacred site to the followers of the Buddhist religion. The bombs exploded around the sacred Bodhi Tree , as well as at locations not far from the Mahabodhi Temple, including the Tergar Monastery, the seat of the Gyalwang Karmapa, and around the big statue of the Buddha built by the Japanese. Two Buddhist monks were seriously injured and taken to hospital for emergency medical treatment. The temple itself and its main Buddha statue did not suffer any serious damage. Nevertheless, it is a matter of extreme sorrow and sadness which cannot be expressed in words that such serious bomb explosions have taken place at such a sacred place of peace and non-violence.
In order that incidents of this kind may not be repeated in future, the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile has written to the Prime Minister of India and the Chief Ministers of the states of Himachal Pradesh and Bihar urging both the central and the concerned state governments to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, enhance the level of security for the Buddhist places of worship, and, in particular, for a heightened level of protection to ensure the personal safety of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Gyalwang Karmapa. Likewise, it is imperative that the heads and leaders of the major lineages of Buddhism and their monasteries, should also pay close attention to the security aspects of their respective places. In accordance with His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s statement issued after the bomb explosions and in keeping with his usual advice, it is very important that human lives should be valued as precious, peace and non-violence should be safeguarded and there should be a mutual show of respect and reverence between the different religious faiths in this world. We likewise appeal to the responsible people in all different societies and communities to follow the same.
