Offering of Precious Relics at La Sonnerie

Today, 11th August 2012, one of Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche's personal attendants, Karma Sherab Wangchuk offered the precious relics of Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche at La Sonnerie. This was in accordance with the wish of Tulku Pema Wanggyal Rinpoche.
The precious relics were received by HE Jigme Khyentse Rinpoche, Tulku Pema Wangyal Rinpoche, Tulku Rangdrol Rinpoche and the Yangsi Rinpoche.
At the start of the ceremony, Tulku Pema Wanggyal Rinpoche stressed that it was so important to remember the kindness of Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche, and said that we would fulfill the wishes of this precious teacher if we put all his instructions into practice. The ceremony was witnessed by several hundred disciples.
Karma Sherab Wangchuk thanked the Rinpoches for the warm reception and for giving the disciples a chance to receive the blessings of the precious relics. He also thanked HE Jigme Khyentse Rinpoche for composing a prayer for Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche's swift return.
The disciples then offered khatag to Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche's photograph, his complete set of robes and his relics which were enshrined on a throne.
The ceremony drew to a close in the late afternoon.

Tenga Rinpoche: Prayer for Swift Return
by 17th Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje

    Namo Guru

Mighty Vajradhara, wisdom of all conquerors in a single form,
Splendid guru, your kindness towards me has been beyond compare.
This way in which you left for dharmadhatu, even though for a just while,
Aches and hurts unbearably as if a thorn has pierced my heart.

Even though the clarity of your eyesight did decline,
And even though your legs and fingers were removed,
You never tired of working for the happiness of beings.
Single father, noble guru, how I miss your kindness!

I think of you and meet your joyful, smiling face.
I think of you and hear your gentle tone of voice.
I think of you, your loving kindness leaves an imprint in my heart.
Again, again, I think of you, oh guru how I miss you!

May your triple trainings’ golden orb remanifest
Among the eastern peaks, your tireless resolve,
    So your beneficial and joyous waves of light shine far and wide;
Please let your emanation soon arise like a youthful sun.

Without you, there’s no chance to clear the gloom of ignorance.
Without you, there’s no chance to cross this ocean of samsara.
Having trusted you forever to be my refuge and my hope,
In every single life at your lotus feet I bow.

Even though the eminent Tenga Rinpoche, our lord of refuge whose kindness is incomparable, has for but a while passed beyond to dharmadhatu, I, Urgyen Trinley, one in the line of bearers of the Karmapa name, wrote this prayer on the 5th of April, 2012, in the form of an earnest supplication, so that he may reappear to benefit all fortunate disciples, as he promised.

Offering of Precious Relics at Dharma Haus Cologne

On the 22nd of July Tempa Yarphel, Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche's main attendend, brought the precious Relics of our Lord of Refuge Tenga Rinpoche to the Dharma Haus Benchen Tashi Ling in the middle of Cologne. Many of Rinpoche's disciples came from the Cologne area and also from further away like the Netherlands, Hamburg, Heidelberg and even Hawaii to honor the preciousness of the display of Rinpoche's enlightened activity in the form of the Ringsel Kyabje Rinpoche manifested after his Parinirvarna.
Rinpoche two other main Zabshis Sherab Wangchuk and Jimba Lordrö as well as Umze Gyurme, Lama Yönten and Lama Ngawang were also present to recieve Kyabje Rinpoche's relics brought by Tempa La. So it felt very much like the Benchen family was united under Rinpoche's protection.
The precious Ringsel were welcomed with an offering of the Mandala of the universe and everyone could pay respect to the precious relics and offer a Kathak. After the traditional tea and rice offering for everyone, Tempa La held a speech about the significance of the the event and the meaning of the relics. Afterwards we joined each other for cake and drinks remembering Kyabje Rinpoche's kindness.
The Precious Ringsel are now displayed for our Sangha to see and venerate in the public Shrineroom of Benchen Tashi Ling. For the future we have ordererd a stupa for Rinpoches precious Ringsel. This Stupa, made out of copper, silver and gold, was designed by H.H. the 17th Karmapa and Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche. At the moment Tashi Öser in Kathmandu is preparing it and it will be send to Cologne as fast as possible.
We would again like to extent our gratitude to the Benchen Phuntsok Dargyling committee for generously offering Kyabje Rinpoche's precious relics and pray that through this blessing Rinpoche's activity will spread and Rinpoche's Yangzi will soon arise.

    Preparation of Tsatsas

On 17 August the making of the Tsatsas, mantras and puja texts to insert into Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche's stupas began. Chagdzö Tashi Öser and Karma Lama are in charge of supervising all of the preparations. Now the summer retreat (yarne) started in our Benchen Monastery and all senior monks are helping by enthusiastically putting their full time efforts towards the preparations. There are going to be a few thousand Tsatsas to be made.

Drubwang Sangye Nyienpa Rinpoche left to Singapore and Malaysia on 30 August. Rinpoche's health is much better. Nevertheless, it would be very nice if all of us could continuously pray for Rinpoche to become healthy and strong. Rinpoche is going to attend the Vajrakilaya Drubchen this November. On the last day of the Drubchen 23 November the Vajrakilaya lamadance is going to be performed.
    That's all for now.
    Namaste, Tempa

Announcing the "Kagyü Ngag Dzö" Empowerments in Benchen Monastery

For the benefit of all beings in general and for the spread of the doctrine of the Victorious Ones in particular, and also for the fulfilment of the enlightened intentions of Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche and his swift rebirth, the Benchen Monastery Office Committee and the Benchen Community have requested His Eminence Drubwang Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche to bestow the precious transmissions of the "Kagyü Ngag Dzö" at Benchen Phüntshok Dargyeling Monastery in Kathmandu, Nepal. His Eminence has kindly accepted this request and has set the date to begin with the transmissions to the 21st day of the 1st Tibetan month of next year, which corresponds to Sunday, 3 March 2013, close to the time around which our annual spring course would have taken place. It is estimated that the entire transmission of empowerments and reading transmissions will take three weeks.
The "Kagyü Ngag Dzö" is the first of five vast collections, compiled by the 1st Jamgön Kongtrul, Lodrö Thaye [1813-1899], in the 19th century in Eastern Tibet. It contains the majority of tantras and associated transmissions which were brought from India to Tibet by Marpa Lotsawa Chökyi Lodrö [1012-1097] in the 11th century. These transmissions were passed on from Marpa through two of his four heart-sons, namely Ngok Chöku Dorje [dates unknown] and Jetsün Milarepa [1040-1123]. They form the core of the teachings and practices of the Four Earlier and Eight Later Dhagpo Kagyü Schools, of which the Kamtshang or Karma Kagyü, Drikung Kagyü, Drugpa Kagyü and Taklung Kagyü still exist to the present day.
The collection includes the transmissions for various mandalas of such major yidam deities as Manjushri-nama-samgiti, Cakrasamvara, Vajrayogini, Hevajra, Nairatmya, Guhyasamaja, Mahamaya, Vajra-cathurpitha, Buddha-kapala, Rakta-yamari and Vajrabhairava. Also included are the "Three special Deities of Marpa", Vajrasattva, Ushnishavijaya and Tara, as well as the transmissions of Cintamanicakra-tara, commonly known as White Tara, and Amitayus in the lineage of Machik Drubpe Gyalmo, as well as Canda-vajrapani, as received and brought to Tibet by Rechung Dorje Dragpa [1084-1161], one of Jetsün Milarepa's foremost students. The empowerments are brought to a close with those of the protectors Four-armed Mahakala, Shridevi Dhumavati and the Five Sisters of Long Life, Tashi Tsering Chenga.
Apart from the various extensive and more concise empowerments for all these, Jamgön Kongtrul has included a number of sadhana texts and instruction manuals by various authors including himself, for the various practices of the above-mentioned deities, concise and elaborate, as well as offering rituals to the masters of the lineage. The entire collection is in eight volumes.

Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche's first Parinirvana Anniversary

Today March 19, 2013, as scheduled, Drubwang Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche took a one day break from the Kagyu Ngagdzo empowerments and we celebrated the first anniversary of the Parinirvana of Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche. The day started with the White Tara ritual known as the "Ngodrub Kuntsol" or "Bestowing all Accomplishments" composed by the Sixth Shamar Chokyi Wangchuk, a White Tara ritual that is widely used in our Karma Kagyu tradition. We were lucky in that these days the statues, made in the likeness of Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche, had arrived and were filled with his precious bodily relics and consecrated by Drubwang Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche. You read about this already previously in a brief post by Tenpa Yarphel, the senior bursar of Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche. The ritual was interrupted for the lunch break and continued at 1:00 p.m. and we were then all surprised and overjoyed when Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche, who had a very close relationship with Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche, made an appearance and joined us for the remainder of the ritual, which continued until the afternoon. The day was then brought to a close, after dinner, with the recitation of the brief Karmapa Guru Yoga composed by Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche, various other prayers and the offering of butter lamps, accompanied by the recitation of Jowoje Palden Atisha's famous "Marme Monlam" or "butter lamp aspiration". The photos were all taken by Sherab Wangchuk, Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche's personal attendant. Keep checking back for more occasionally.
    Best wishes,
    Benchen Monastery Committee

On 19 March 2013 we commemorated, in the Benchen monastery, the first anniversary of Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche's Parinirvana. The monastery was visited by many distinguished guests, Rinpoches, tulkus and lamas from other monasteries (including Kalu Rinpoche), thousands of monks and nuns, as well as the local Tibetan community and foreign students. A throne with a statue depicting Rinpoche filled with his relics was placed in the lhakhang next to the White Tara mandala. All gathered could offer it prostrations, kathaks and gifts.
The celebrations began with the White Tara Puja, who was Rinpoche's personal yidam. To end the puja we sang Lama Gyangbu ("Calling Lama from Afar") and in the evening we sang Marme Monlam ("The Lamp Prayer)".
During the ceremony sponsors offered kathaks to Rinpoches, as well as money donations to the sangha. Former Benchen monks also expressed their gratitude. On its part, the monastery offered a festive lunch and dinner for the guests.

The Grand Conclusion of the Kagyu Ngagdzo Empowerments
On Sunday, 24 March 2013, the transmission of the Kagyu Ngagdzo by H.E. Drubwang Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche was concluded in great style with a tshog offering ritual to Jetsun Milarepa and the Kagyu masters in the morning, thanksgiving offerings by our own Labrang as well as all other participating monasteries, and the traditional long-life empowerment for the participants and general public in the afternoon.
The event was visited by more than 6000 people, including the participants in the three weeks of transmissions, local as well as international students, as well as many local people from all walks of life who had especially come for the final big blessing. Please enjoy some of the pictures, taken as usual by Sherab Wangchuk.
But already we are planning ahead. Reminiscing about years past, Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche told us that already years ago Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche had requested him to give these major empowerments at Benchen Monastery, and how he had always kept these requests in mind. Accordingly we are happy to announce that upon the request of both the Benchen Monastery Committee as well as other monasteries, H.E. Drubwang Sangye Nyenpa Rinpoche has kindly agreed to give the transmission of the Damngag Dzo here at Benchen Monastery. The prospective date set for the commencement of this event is set to 28 September 2014, which corresponds to the 4th day of the eighth Tibetan month of next year.
The Damngag Dzo, like the Kagyu Ngagdzo compiled by Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye, contains the major teachings of the original Eight Practice Lineages that appeared in Tibet as a result of various Indian transmissions being brought to, translated and propagated there. It is from these that the present day schools evolved as we know them today. This collection is approximately twice as large as the Kagyu Ngagdzo, and its transmission will take around 50 days. We will publish more information as it becomes available. Please check back regularly.
With best wishes and looking forward to seeing you all again soon,
    Benchen Monastery Committee

    Kudung Stupa completed
    kstupa
On the 29th September 2013 Kyabje Tenga Rinpoche's Kudung Stupa was completed in the Tara shrine room of the Benchen Monastery, Swoyambhu, Nepal. Rinpoche's skullcup he left behind, relic pills, Tsatsas and all required substances were filled inside the stupa and it was sealed. The day of the consecration is not settled yet.

I would like to say thank you very, very much from the Benchen community to all who were involved in the creation of the stupa.
Especially we would like to thank Chagzö Tashi Özer who devotedly put all his effort into this project, visiting the artists everyday, even at times he was sick.

    That's all news.

    Namaste, Tempa
