Tibet : Seventeen Tibetans held in chinese-flag-resisting
    Redazione - Gio, 28/11/2013 - 06:42
Chinese authorities have detained 17 Tibetans in a county where villagers have refused orders to fly the Chinese national flag from their homes and put up posters calling for freedom. No reasons were given when the 17 were picked up in separate groups in Gonshul village and Tenkhar village in Driru's Bomphen township.Driru has been at the center of a campaign by Tibetans resisting forced displays of loyalty to the Chinese state. Two weeks ago, Chinese police took three men into custody for putting up posters calling for freedom in Driru county’s Shakchu township following a wave of detentions in the area after villagers refused orders to fly the Chinese national flag from their homes.
The campaign began in early October when villagers refused orders to fly Chinese flags from their homes, throwing them instead into a river and prompting a deadly security crackdown.
Shootings in Driru’s Sengthang and Trinring villages on Oct. 8 left four dead and at least 50 injured.
Two days earlier, security forces shot and wounded at least 60 Driru-area Tibetans demanding the release of a villager who had led protests against Chinese orders to hoist the flags.
Early this month, Chinese security forces detained 15 Tibetan villagers and banned mass petitioning in Driru after residents pushed for the release of a local writer and a friend detained on “separatism” charges.

Tibetan youth immolates self in Ngaba
    Phayul[Wednesday, December 04, 2013 16:13]

DHARAMSHALA, December 4 - A thirty year old Tibetan man has set himself ablaze in Tibet's Meruma town in Ngaba County on Tuesday, a former political prisoner now living here said. Kunchok Tseten shouted slogans demanding the return of exiled Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama and union of Tibetans inside Tibet and exiles. "Long live Gyalwa Tenzin Gyatso, lets unite our brothers here and those in exile", he shouted before collapsing a few metres away.
Chinese police on routine patrol immediately surrounded him not allowing local Tibetans who were preventing them from taking the charred body away. The police finally took away Kunchok after a few clashes with the police. Tseten's wife Namnang, 28, and a few of his relatives were arrested. A few bystanders involved in manhandling with the police were also arrested.
All businesses in the town were forced to shut down for today as the town wore a deserted look following yesterday's fiery protest by Tseten.
Tseten's brother anticipated this protest. "I can't tolerate the atrocities committed by the Chinese government on us Tibetans, and with all the self immolation by Tibetan brothers and sisters thus far I would one day sacrifice myself by burning myself," his brother recalled Tseten as telling in summer this year.
Tseten lives with his wife and two children, Chakdor Kyab; 4, and Paltsel Kyab; 3.
It is not yet known where Tseten is currently kept or whether he is alive. Tseten became the 124th Tibetan to protest by self immolation since Tapey, a monk of Kirti monastery, set himself ablaze in February 2009

China arrests 2 Tibetan singers from Driru
    Phayul[Friday, December 06, 2013 12:30]

DHARAMSHALA, December 6 - Chinese authorities in Tibet's Driru County have arrested two Tibetan singers in November for producing music albums that called for Tibetan unity and preservation of the Tibetan language, a Tibetan source said.
Gonpo Tenzin, 25, from Septhra village (spelled as pronounced), Shagchu township in Driru County, was arrested on Nov. 30 from Lhasa, Tibet's capital city.
Gonpo has sung several songs calling for unity among Tibetans and preservation of the Tibetan language and cultural tradition. Among his albums, "where is the Tibetan losar in Tibet" became the most popular in Tibet.
Tsekar Thinlay, a 22 year old Tibetan singer, was arrested around November 20 while he was at a government run driving school and license issuing office in Nagchu. The source added that his album, "Ring of Unity", which called for unity among Tibetans was well received by listeners. He is accused of mobilizing anti-government sentiments among Tibetan listeners of his music.
There is no further information about the two's whereabouts amid strict monitoring and surveillance by Chinese authorities in Driru that has seen several protests and crackdown since September 2013.
Sources also said that the county law enforcement authorities have released a list of Tibetans who have studied outside Nagchu prefecture to be called for Thought Education Campaign. The Tibetans who had been released since September will also be subjected to the Thought Education Campaign.
Since widespread protests against China across Tibet in 2008, Tibetan singers, writers, and artistes promoting Tibetan national identity and culture have become easy targets of China’s ongoing crackdown on intellectuals.
